I want to do a longer post on this, but there is a great piece on this testing and assessment from a school administrator.
Bottom line, testing is extremely useful if used effectively. And here is a reminder that testing can be used to spot problems in implementing curriculum at the school level and problems in learning for an individual student so it can be rectified.
I have to read this article (and this site) in more detail. I did comment to your comment though.
I'm curious though, cause I'm new. Are you a teacher too?

Thanks for taking a look. The only place where I teach kids is in Sunday School, and it certainly isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination. I teach management online to adults, and I've been in the corporate world's education sector since the late 80's.
